As the founder and driving force behind SP Marine, Joel brings a wealth of technical expertise, industry experience, and a genuine passion for helping customers enjoy reliable and trouble-free time on the water.

Joel began his trade career as a Diesel Fuel Injection Engineer, developing a strong foundation in engine performance, diagnostics, and precision mechanical systems. Driven by his passion for boating and the marine environment, he further expanded his qualifications by becoming a Boat Systems Engineer, opening the door to a diverse and rewarding career in the marine industry.

Seeking to broaden his experience, Joel relocated to the United Kingdom, where he worked as a Marine Engineer responsible for the maintenance, repair, and surveying of a substantial fleet of patrol boats, tugs, barges, and other specialist utility vessels. This role provided invaluable experience across a wide range of marine systems and operational environments, while reinforcing the importance of reliability, preventative maintenance, and high-quality workmanship.

Returning to New Zealand in 2017, Joel founded South Pacific Marine Services with a clear vision: to provide authentic customer service, honest advice, and marine solutions focused on long-term reliability rather than short-term fixes. What began as a small operation has grown into a trusted marine service provider based on the Whangaparāoa Peninsula, supported by an ever-growing base of loyal and satisfied customers.

Joel remains passionate about the continual evolution of the marine industry and is committed to building a team that shares the same values of professionalism, accountability, and excellence. He believes that strong customer relationships, attention to detail, and quality workmanship are the foundations of a successful marine business.

Outside of managing the day-to-day operations of SP Marine, Joel enjoys spending time on the water with his wife and three children. Whether fishing in the Hauraki Gulf, exploring new anchorages, or island hopping around New Zealand’s stunning coastline, boating remains a central part of family life and a constant reminder of why reliable marine systems matter.

As our Senior Marine Systems Engineer, Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience gained from many years working across a wide range of marine engines, electrical systems, and vessel types. His career has taken him from private and commercial vessels through to working aboard large cruise liners, giving him a broad understanding of marine systems in virtually every environment.

Jeff’s connection to the marine world extends beyond his career. Having spent time living aboard a boat with his family, he understands firsthand the importance of reliability, safety, and attention to detail when it comes to marine systems. This real-world experience helps him approach every project with a practical mindset and a commitment to finding the best solution for each customer.

Known for his thorough approach and keen eye for detail, Jeff takes great pride in delivering work to the highest standard. Whether diagnosing complex faults, carrying out system upgrades, or managing complete project installations, he is dedicated to ensuring every job is completed with precision and professionalism.

Outside of work, Jeff is a devoted family man and enjoys spending quality time with his three children. When he’s not at the marina or workshop, you’ll often find him out fishing, camping, or exploring New Zealand’s waterways with his family. A true marine enthusiast, Jeff also enjoys restoring and improving his own pleasure craft, carefully working through projects in his spare time and continually expanding his knowledge and skills. For Jeff, boating isn’t just a profession—it’s a way of life.

Matt brings a high level of enthusiasm and ambition to every job he undertakes. With a genuine passion for marine engineering, he is always eager to expand his knowledge, develop new skills, and stay up to date with the latest marine technologies and industry developments.

Whether he’s diagnosing a complex engine issue, carrying out routine maintenance, or assisting customers with technical advice, Matt approaches every task with a positive attitude and a determination to achieve the best possible outcome. Growing up in Western Australia, Cayden was surrounded by mechanical systems from an early age. His background gave him a strong understanding of how machinery works and sparked an interest in hands-on problem-solving that continues to drive him today.

Since joining the marine industry, Cayden has embraced the unique challenges that come with marine servicing and repair work. From routine maintenance to fault-finding and complex repairs, he enjoys the variety that every day brings and the satisfaction of getting vessels back on the water performing as they should.

Marine systems often present challenges that differ from those found in other mechanical industries, and that’s exactly what Cayden enjoys most. The combination of mechanical, electrical, and onboard systems means there’s always something new to learn and another opportunity to expand his skills.
